Neonologists

I am a part of Neonology because I am dedicated to empowering youth and being a part of changing the community.  Neonology does both.  I believe Neonology empowers youth because it creates awareness on the barriers that separate them from each other.  Put in simpler terms, it creates real connections.  I believe it is  only when people start building real connections with each other, is when real change can actually begin.

I am a part of this project because it is important to me to hear what youth have to say in regards to social problems like discrimination. A lot of projects and organizations brag about ‘youth engagement’ but when looked at more closely, youth are represented in a tokenistic way. We are looking to change that. Neonology aims to create spaces where discussion is the goal, rather than instruction by facilitators.

I am a part of Neonology because I believe that racism exists. It is a problem that affects me and my community so I have to be involved. I like Neonology because it constantly challenges me and is a creative, different and real way of looking at racism and discrimination, with various perspectives that all people can relate to.

I helped with the development of the curriculum and am a facilitator of the Neonology workshops. I hope that the ideas of Neonology continue to spread beyond the North Shore community and we all can become more welcoming and supportive members of our community.
