Well I don’t think I have ever seen so many beautiful pictures, paintings, projects in one post before. www.streetutopia.com collected 106 of the most amazing street art pictures from this year and put them in a post for our viewing pleasure. Below are just a few but I IMPLORE you to click-through and be amazed. The talent….there are no words.
My top picks (but really they are all amazing)!

Just a friendly reminder from us to go and do something t today. Preferably something that you love but, anything will do. Stop working to work and start working to live or better yet “Live To Live”.
Watch Kayaker Jesse Coombs as he became the first person to successfully paddle down Abiqua Falls in Oregon, USA (no big deal).
Coombs’s plunge was considered a success even though he suffered both a fractured shoulder socket and a collapsed lung.
Ask yourself what you did this week. It’s already Thursday, get on it.

By now, everyone in Vancouver (and the world) saw what happened after the hockey game last night. At this point, it doesn’t matter who the vandals were (Canucks fans or not), what matters is that our beautiful city was destroyed by people who call it their home.
We are so monumentally lucky to live in Vancouver, and last night it appeared that many forgot this notion.
It seems we need a bit more perspective.
One bright light in this disaster is the many hundreds of people who got up this morning and helped clean up crews pick up the mess left behind. Thank you. #vancouvercleanup

Hey Neonology Youth,
We are celebrating the past year + the end of the year. Come drop by to eat, chill, laugh, and eat some more with other Neonology Youth!
Here is where it will be : http://ow.ly/5jyyy

the BBQ EVENT?
BC Youth Week runs May 1st – 7th. Youth Week is in honour of all youth across the province and to recognize the vital role that they play in every community. There are events being held all across BC and to find out what’s happening in your community, you can click here.
I have the privilege of working with youth on a daily basis and feel lucky for this role. Older generations often make assumptions that youth don’t care or are lazy and I have witnessed quite the opposite. Youth care a great deal and if given the opportunity, can create the community adults have always envisioned.
I came across this TED talk by Adora Svitak, a young lady with a few profound things to say about how adults can learn from youth. So check it out and let me know what you think!
Happy Youth Week to all the amazing youth in BC and around the world!

Last night, we had the opportunity to connect with and hear stories from an amazing group of people. The purpose of last night was #Netculture, and highlighting how social media and the internet has helped different cultures strengthen their identities. It was an awesome night with a lot of heartfelt stories, laughs and advice on dating.

What a party – the MC’s of the night, Ajay and Elijah were engaging and witty. Really LOVED how they changed up the government ‘What do you identify yourself as’ and change it up to a blank box so you can fill it out yourself! Definite props to the organizing committee on this great event! Here are a few highlights of the night:
Veronica Heringer (http://madameheringer.com): Even though you might not know what type of platform you want to do, just do it. Her blog is awesome and highlights her journey- it’s also bilingual which I thought was even more awesome. The way she talked of her work sounded as though she was having a lot of fun, and it was really awesome to hear about all the successes she has had when reaching out to the community.
Ray Hsu + Zi-Ann Lum (www.waytooazn.com): They tackled a pretty big issue (Too Asian? From Macleans Magazine University Evaluation) and it resulted in magic. They also managed to take a negative article from Macleans and use it as their own, resulting in waytooazn. Their approach to a serious issue and turning it upside down and inside out is awesome and pretty inspiring. Instead of mulling around and being angry about the article, they did something about it.
Jordana Mah (www.schemamag.ca): Memorable quote: “You don’t just walk up to someone to ask them out on a date. You have to go to the same place that they go to frequently, and then when they have a book or so, go up to them and say ‘That’s an insightful looking book you’re reading’. Then you two can go on a date, and possibly have babies…” She is the co-editor in chief as well as marketing for schemamag, which has interviewed the likes of Elise Estrada and Far East Movement, which is pretty awesome.
Entertainment Break: Our entertainer, Babette Santos, was a triple threat! She did spoken word, then she started singing, and then she started playing an instrument, and then she started doing some martial arts. Her performance highlighted the indigenous people of the Philippines. Her spoken word was phenomenal and had so much emotion in it, but I held back the tears instead so as to not cry on Sioned’s shoulder.
RJ Aquino + Jay Catalan (www.tulayan.com): Facebook is a powerful tool to network and to reach out to the community. Tulayan in Tagalog means bridge, and that was what they aimed and succeeded to do with their workshops. I checked out some of the stuff they have on facebook – it was pretty awesome. One of the things they had were Tagalog classes! Also, another memorable quote: “If you build it they will come.”
Norma Ibarra + Paola Murillo (www.latincouver.ca): One thing learned from these two inspiring ladies: do not bring Latin Americans to a Mexican restaurant. More than that, their latincouver website and initiative looks like a blast to be in and to take part of. It just goes to show that a small group can escalate into something massive.
Ashok Puri (@papapuri): Couch surfing has never looked more appealing! Couch surfing doesn’t only mean sitting around infront of a TV – it means travelling the world on a budget. Mr. Puri was extremely delightful to listen to, he had a lot of wisdom and experience and of course a lot of wit (I guess it runs in the family). His stories and experiences with new technology helped us realize that social media isn’t just for youth anymore – it’s for everyone.
Kety Esquivel (@ketyE): She was our wonderful keynote speaker. It was really awesome to see her on Skype- even more awesome was that she made time in her busy schedule just to talk to us. She had a lot to say and even though Skype was a little buggy, she still managed to relay her message to us. Fun fact: 18% of twitter users are Latin American. Fun fact: She was all the way in Mexico when she skyped us!

How does this relate to YOU(TH)?
All of these speakers had to start out from somewhere in the internet. It looks like a lot of time and effort on everyone’s parts to do what they are doing. It looks like a lot of passion and love are put into everything they create. With hardwork, passion and dedication, things happen. As RJ Aquino put it so eloquently: “Build it and they will come.” More than that, it is taking something so well known and so relevent and putting it upside down.
I know that groups can start out small and it can be discouraging. However, amazing things develop over time. Neonology is all about initiative, and all about effort and passion into things that are loved. Plus, Neonology is all about thinking outside the box and turning things upside down and shaking it around (Cue Safety Dance song here).
There is no doubt in our minds that changes and new ideas will come about through social media. Twitter was one method used to inform people of the dramatic changes occurring in Egypt. Blogs outline the newest trends in fashion and in lifestyles. Behind many of the accounts in Twitter and Facebook and blogs are of course, YOU(TH)!From here in North Vancouver, we just wanted to thank everyone involved with#Netculture and its organization as well as the speakers. We also wanted to thank you for letting us in even though we were waitlisted – it was definitely worth the wait!
